MARY SHACKMAN
I have been painting full time for seventeen years. Before that I concentrated on textile design and produced a printed fashion range. This earlier party of my career has now come full circle with recent stimulating involvement with new generation fashion designers.
My main thrust remains my paintings. I interpret the patterns I see underlying everything around me in the specific 18 colour palette I have developed. Some times my work will be more free form drawn from inter-stellar space or themed from nature poetry (walking in the hills) and once or twice social comment but mainly it is pattern and colour.
Some people say my current work harks back to 60’s psychedelic pop art and geometrics but it is all new and fresh to me.
Painting links me to my inner self and gives relevance to my life, which thankfully is well balanced with family and social interests. I enjoy my life. |
